Alexandra Baugh

My name is Alex Baugh, and I am a therapist based in Birmingham, Alabama. I am a licensed professional counselor and a national certified counselor who holds Brainspotting and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training. I have served as the secretary for the Alabama Chapter of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, and I have presented nationally on the topics of eating disorders and addictions.

I received my undergraduate degree from UAB with a psychology major and a studio arts minor and received my graduate degree from Auburn University with a master’s in clinical mental health counseling. Previously, I have worked in a substance use facility, specializing in the treatment of all genders in the inpatient and outpatient setting. I have also worked at an eating disorder treatment center in the residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient levels of care. I primarily work with adults and adolescents.

My Approach

I specialize in identity and LGBTQIA+ issues, substance use disorders, trauma-related disorders, psychedelic preparation and integration therapy, and eating disorders. I am a body positive therapist as well as a sexual orientation and gender identity affirming therapist. I value the power of connection through vulnerability and work to meet each client where they are in their process. I take a holistic approach to therapy that encompasses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of each of my clients. I utilize experiential and the latest evidence-based approaches, such as art therapy, client centered theories, acceptance and commitment therapy, parts-based therapies, Brainspotting, EMDR, and schema therapy. I see each client as the expert in their own life, and I strive to truly understand personal, individualized goals and perspectives in order to be a source of nonjudgmental support and positive regard.
